About Us » Making Our Communities Healthier
It takes people working together to accomplish all that we do. Take a closer look at what it's like to be "on the job" with some of the people of Texas AHEC East.

"I represent our Department on UTMB’s Green Team. Last month, UTMB decided to add a pen recycling initiative to its recycling program.  I attended the meeting where we learned about the program."

Traditionally tens of thousands of pens, highlighter and markers end up in landfills. Plastic is non-biodegradable. In partnership with Today’s Business Solutions, Newell Rubbermaid and Terracycle, UTMB departments on campus will now be able to recycle any writing utensil. For every writing utensil that we recycle, .2 cents will be donated to a charity of our choice. Pen disposal drop boxes will be available in the next coming weeks.
