Center for Comparative Effectiveness Research on Cancer in Texas
A research initiative that will impact clinical cancer care for Texans (CERCIT) includes a commitment to communicating findings to the general public, cancer survivors, healthcare professionals, policymakers, planners and researchers. a much broader audience and not just researchers and physicians.

Texas AHEC East has assumed responsibility for dissemination of all materials developed by CERCIT investigators; building and maintaining partnerships with public and private organizations (stakeholders) and; developing evaluation methods used to provide feedback to CERCIT investigators from community stakeholders to measure product impact and potential follow-up.

RCHWEIA Project
Using the ARRC Model to capitalize on AHEC best practices for building the healthcare workforce AHEC staff initiated the Rural County Health Workforce Economic Impact Analysis (RCHWEIA) Project.  The  project engaged the community in health workforce planning with the goal of creating a stable health workforce and the long-term success of the community in meeting its health needs and the ensuing economic health of the community. AHEC produced analyses and reports for 73 communities statewide.  read more ...
Putting Health Care Careers Within Reach
In order to expose, attract and encourage families and students from all ethnic and economic backgrounds to consider careers in health care six AHEC centers across east Texas have been mentoring 418 high school students this past year. read more ...
Best Practices to Address Under-representation of African-American and Hispanics in the Health Profe
This project compiled and analyzed programs, which are designed to encourage diversity in health professions, in order to consider factors that make such a program successful. read more ...
The A-TrACC Project for the Behavioral/Mental Health

The nation’s AHECs (Area Health Education Centers) are mobilizing their networks to educate civilian health professionals about deployment-related mental and behavioral health issues of service members, veterans and their families.

NIMH Outreach Partnership Program
East Texas AHEC has joined the National Institutes of Mental Health’s Outreach Partnership Program as the NIMH Outreach Partner for the NIMH Outreach Partner for the Texas Border Region. 
Health Career Pipeline
We introduce the very young student to the image of the health professional and their health-related tasks to set in motion the appeal of a health career. We offer continual stimulus and support to the middle and high school student to foster knowledge of available multi-disciplined health career choices and enhance their opportunity to train to become their community's health professional.  read more ...
Community-based Education & Service-Learning
East Texas AHEC advocates community-based education (CBE) for health professions students, with an emphasis on primary care and underserved populations.  Our efforts to facilitate the health profession student’s training process also encourages student participation in providing service to the community (service-learning) and to instill in the student a desire upon graduation to return to a community setting to practice. Emphasis is directed toward the SEARCH program that facilitates health professions students and residents to serve on multidisciplinary healthcare teams in underserved communities.

AHEC Recruitment and Retention Community Model (ARRC Model)
We utilize the AHEC Recruitment and Retention Community (ARRC) Model as our framework for health workforce development. The ARRC Model was developed by East Texas AHEC staff as a way to capitalize on AHEC best practice for building the healthcare workforce. Emergency Medical Dispatch Resource Center
The 79th Texas Legislature passed Senate Bill 523 for East Texas Area Health Education Center (AHEC) to pilot a Rural Emergency Dispatch Resource Center. The pilot was successfully completed, detailed in a report entitled Emergency Medical Services Dispatch Resource Center Pilot ProjectThe 80th Legislature passed House Bill 1412, charging East Texas AHEC with expansion of the pilot to help address needs of rural 911answering points across the state. The expanded program is now in development. read more ...
AHEC PUBLIC HEALTH AMBULATORY COMMUNITY SELECTIVE
This 4-week Public Health Ambulatory Community selective is an opportunity for the student to learn about the profession and practice of medicine in a community setting working with special populations, participating in a service learning experience and with special opportunities to explore interdisciplinary team practice and public health. The health policy option, included in this selective course, has students working at the Capitol producing reports on selected health policy topics.

  is a web resource designed by East Texas Area Health Education Center (AHEC) staff for electronic data collection and reporting of all "AHEC touches."
