Putting Health Care Careers Within Reach

In order to expose, attract and encourage families and students from all ethnic and economic backgrounds to consider careers in health care six AHEC centers across east Texas have been mentoring 418 high school students this past year.

Funds for ECHO activities were supported by a grant from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. For more information about AHEC’s programming to encourage students into health care occupations, contact Amanda W. Scarbrough at amanda.scarbrough@utmb.edu or 409-772-7884.

East Texas AHEC and its centers awarded $43,500 in scholarships to 29 deserving college bound high school students, putting college within reach for many struggling families.
